Challenge:
Designing for Sustainable mobility - Smart data collection system for modal split analysis
Raiven Sma.rt data collection system for modal split analysis
Summary
Raiven proposes a smart, privacy-respecting data platform that empowers the challenge holder to understand how pedestrians and cyclists move through urban spaces. Raiven will provide AI expertise in the area of Computer Vision to detect cyclists and pedestrians in videos and use this to map mobility patterns, modal split, and the usage of current infrastructure. We will not aim to identify individuals and the system will be designed in a privacy-preserving manner. The insights will be available in a dashboard, with an interactive map-based interface to understand the location-based context of mobility patterns and modal split. Integration with traffic monitoring systems is likely to provide additional insights into the context in which pedestrians and cyclists move.
Foreseen impact
Raiven’s solution enables local authorities to design safer, more inclusive, and sustainable transport networks based on real-world evidence. By analyzing movement trends, identifying high-risk zones, and quantifying modal shifts, we will help the challenge holder:
1) reduce congestion and emissions
2) improve safety
3) encourage active (and low-carbon) travel

About the solver
Raiven Limited (https://raiven.xyz/) are a forward-thinking AI and Data Science agency focused on helping clients understand, adopt and scale technology within their organisations. With a track record of innovation, Raiven specialise in supporting the scoping, designing and building of solutions to tackle challenging problems with new technology. We have close links with several UK universities to support our innovation activities and are a partner in Aston University's Centre of Excellence for Enterprise AI.
Raiven was the Data Science partner for the Innovate UK SAFER AI project, developing a privacy-preserving edge-focussed system for forecasting Health and Safety Incidents for a manufacturing plant with one of the world's largest consumer goods companies (https://gtr.ukri.org/projects?ref=10093091). Our Lead Data Scientist has reviewed and advised on Birmingham City's Federated Digital Twin Data Exchange Platform (https://iuk-business-connect.org.uk/projects/innovation-accelerator/digital-innovation-transformative-change-diatomic/) and Raiven maintains an interest in smart city applications.
Members of the Raiven team have completed computer vision projects for defence, developed recommendation engines for streaming services, and more.
